Qualities of a good counselor
A good counselor will be tolerant enough and will always try and understand the needs of the person. A Counselor should also be skilled enough to get the truth out from the person. The Counselor also needs to behave properly with the one obtaining advice and should try and make the other person feel comfortable. A good counselor will sit and discuss everything in detail. Depending on the problem he will try and solve it in three or four meetings if the problem is not very intense. In case of intense problems, the counselor will increase the number of sittings until the patient or the person seeking help is satisfied.

Mostly people today live in nuclear families and as a result no one is at home to guide them and console them in their times of trouble. Previously people used to live in joint families so there were many family members with whom one was able to discuss all their problems and feel little relaxed. Nowadays, generally this work is done by counselors. An excellent life counselor will be the one who goes down to the grass roots level in order to find out the problem. If one wants to consult a counselor it is always advisable to first talk to a friend or a relative who is known to the particular counselor. One important aspect in counseling is the patient as well as the counselor should have faith and trust in each other. In absence of this important factor the counselor will not be able to cure the patient to the fullest. Moreover, the patient should disclose all the relevant facts to the counselor so that he devises proper treatment. If some vital information is hidden from the counselor then one may not see the desired results from the counselor.
