Admissions Counselor Jobs

The primary responsibility of an admissions counselor is marketing the given university’s academic programs to students from high schools, technical schools, adult
education or career service programs, and other colleges and universities through presentations, personal visits, telephone calls, and email communications. Admissions counselors also participate in recruitment activities. An admissions counselor will also provide educational counseling and advising to prospective traditional and nontraditional students and their families. As an admissions counselor, one has to manage administrative time effectively to develop and maintain a travel schedule that supports the marketing initiatives, the entry of contacts’ data in appropriate electronic databases, conferences with admissions staff, and the restocking of travel materials. An admissions counselor establishes a network of professional relationships with educators, counselors, alumni, or other individuals or groups that will enhance recruitment efforts.
An admissions counselor should be outgoing, positive, and professional, in addition to possessing strong presentation, listening, and written and verbal communication skills. He or she must have the ability to connect with, motivate, and inspire people, especially youth. An admissions counselor must also have a bachelor’s degree, and some ability and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and relational databases is also preferred for admissions counselor jobs. Sales or marketing experience is another requirement for an admissions counselor job. Prior experience of at least one year is also desirable.
