Career Counselor Jobs
A career counselor job is a responsible but non-supervisory position. A career counselor implements the given company's strategies within timelines, handles revenue responsibilities, and deals with cross-functional teams. Additional duties include assisting customers in securing permanent employment opportunities through individual job development, referrals to job listing resources, and/or coordinating with employer services; developing individual service plans and participating in the determination of a customer's suitability for inclusion in the program; and providing ongoing, comprehensive case management. A career counselor can help mid-career professionals understand their strengths and desires, guiding them to make decisions that make their lives more satisfying. Career counselors can help candidates identify gaps in their careers and help them work on those gaps. The counselor identifies a candidate's strengths and areas for improvement, guiding him or her to the next level. A career counselor focuses, above all, on an individual's personal and professional goals and progress.
A career counselor position requires a bachelor's degree plus two or more years of relevant experience and/or training. A career counselor should also have the ability to communicate effectively with people of all socioeconomic and situational backgrounds; the ability to identify participant needs and appropriate support services; knowledge of appropriate procedures and technical aspects such as submitting CRT forms, vouchers, and training agreements; knowledge of approved vendors and occupations; the ability to motivate program participants; the ability to use standard word processing software programs; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and the ability to organize and prioritize the work to be performed as necessary.
