Counselor Supervisor Jobs

Counselor supervisors supervise plans and coordinate and evaluate the work activities of professional staff who are engaged in the full range of custody and treatment services. Their duties include responsibility for the safety, security, control, education, healthcare, recreation, religion, food service, and other related diagnostic services of minors in custody. Counselor supervisors supervise the counseling and probationary activities of juvenile counseling staff, formulate policies and procedures, and coordinate counseling activities with the family, reviewing treatment plans and making suggestions to the individual and the court and assisting families in working through major problems. Counselor supervisors handle difficult cases requiring intensive counseling and special problems, maintain direct case management of all juvenile counselors, and review cases periodically. Counselor supervisors are responsible for unit record keeping, statistical reports as required by the superintendent of juvenile detention, performing duties under the superintendent of juvenile detention, preparing reports as requested, representing the superintendent of juvenile detention as required, and providing supervision of on-the-job training for all assigned staff.
Counselor supervisors should have a bachelor's degree with coursework in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related courses. Counselor supervisors should have a master's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field and 4-10 years of related experience and/or training. Counselor supervisors must be able to pass an extensive criminal history background check and should have the ability to deal with the stressful and emotional situations involved in the process of counseling minors to maintain pleasant working relationships.
