Dance Counselor Jobs
Dance counselors advise individual participants on the skills necessary for successful performance. Dance counselors provide a positive learning environment for students and plan and schedule a regular program of activity in accordance with district policy. Dance counselors look after student behavior during activity sessions and events and take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Dance counselors assist the activity director or administrator, when necessary, in scheduling club and student activities, events, and contests. Dance counselors give recommendations regarding the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate and maintain complete and accurate records as required (i.e., attendance forms, insurance records, etc.). A dance counselor is required to explain and demonstrate techniques and methods of regulating movements of the body to musical or rhythmic accompaniment and to organize and conduct competitions and tournaments. The counselor must assume primary responsibility for scheduling and for the preparation of the area in which the event is to be held.
Dance counselors should have a degree in dance from a college or university, and then take a one-year teacher training course to receive a post graduate certificate in education (PGCE). Dance counselors should prepare to teach on an undergraduate campus, specializing in a subject area such as physical education with dance elements, as well as learn about teaching a specific age group.
