Direct Care Counselor Jobs
A direct care counselor assists program participants in carrying out their day-to-day activities according to individualized treatment plans and maintains a personalized, home-like environment within the residence facility. A direct care counselor provides each consumer with the opportunity to be independent and productive according to his or her individual capabilities. A direct care counselor helps consumers to know, understand, and exercise their personal rights as appropriate. A direct care counselor is responsible for providing services to adults with developmental disabilities and is committed to the principle that all individuals with a developmental disability are able to become contributing members of their families and communities.
For a direct care counselor job, experience is desired but not required. A high school diploma and a valid driver's license, however, are required, and a bachelor's degree in a human services discipline is preferred. Direct care counselors should have the ability to communicate with patients of various ages, populations, and cultural/ethnic backgrounds. Direct care counselors should also have sufficient physical strength and the knowledge and ability to provide a safe environment.
