Head Counselor Jobs
A head counselor provides a safe environment for campers and staff members. A head counselor acts as a positive role model for campers. A head counselor gets to know each camper, including his or her likes and dislikes. A head counselor nurtures each camper’s development of social skills and self-esteem. A head counselor supervises and monitors each camper’s health and hygiene. A head counselor assists in teaching or leading camp activities. A head counselor also provides opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp. A head counselor instructs and guides cabin groups and individual campers to successfully participate in designated activities. A head counselor uses humor and patience in teaching to bring out the best in participants. A head counselor develops and carries out lesson plans for different age groups and skill levels. A head counselor follows through with all required paperwork, including weekly cabin reports and personal notes to parents.
A master’s degree is preferred for a head counselor job. Experience of at least one year is also preferred for a head counselor job. No tattoos, body piercings, earrings on men, or unconventional hair colors or styles are tolerated for head counselor jobs. Desire, commitment, and the ability to work with young people are preferred for head counselor jobs. The ability to communicate and work with children ages 6-14 and provide necessary instruction is a requirement for a head counselor job.
