Housing Counselor Jobs
A housing counselor provides group and one-on-one counseling to individuals and families seeking to become homeowners. A housing counselor provides assessment, crisis intervention, and counseling services. A housing counselor conducts comprehensive intake interviews, evaluating and screening families referred to the project for presentation to the staff. A housing counselor develops mutually agreed upon service plans and goals with each family. A housing counselor does home visits with each family to assess housing and family needs. A housing counselor provides a minimum of one follow-up contact per month and ongoing case management for each assigned family. A housing counselor provides basic problem-solving casework to clients. A housing counselor schedules and conducts inspections of client housing to assure safety standards, and also discusses necessary repairs with landlords. A housing counselor promotes positive community relations and networks with other agencies. A housing counselor participates in case management meetings, weekly program staff meetings, individual supervision meetings, staff development activities, and interagency meetings.
A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is required for a housing counselor job. Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention and assessment and awareness of the
issues of low-income people are also required for housing counselor jobs, as is a minimum of one year’s experience.
