Loan Counselor Jobs
A loan counselor provides guidance to prospective loan applicants who have problems qualifying for traditional loans. This guidance may include determining the best type of loan and explaining loan requirements or restrictions. A loan counselor collects payments that are between one and 59 days delinquent in accordance with all state and federal laws and the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. A loan counselor should obtain and maintain a delinquency ratio at or below the industry average. A loan counselor maintains accurate collection records of telephone customer contacts to collect monies on delinquent mortgages. A loan counselor counsels mortgagors on programs that can be used to avoid foreclosure. A loan counselor formulates both informal repayment plans and limited formal repayment plans. Communicating regularly and effectively with homeowners that are seriously delinquent in order to identify and negotiate the best workout or collection option available for their individual needs is also a primary responsibility of a loan counselor. A loan counselor also prepares marketing materials based upon loan criteria.
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required for loan counselor jobs. A loan counselor must have excellent communication skills and provide excellent customer service by initiating outbound collection calls and occasionally handling incoming current and delinquent calls. Excellent listening and speaking skills are preferred for loan counselor jobs. Computer skills are also preferred for loan counselor jobs.
