Rehabilitation Counselor Jobs
Rehabilitation counselor jobs involve counseling individuals to maximize the independence and employability of persons coping with personal, social, and vocational difficulties that result from birth defects, illness, disease, accidents, or the stress of daily life. Rehabilitation counselors assess client needs and design and implement rehabilitation programs that may include personal and vocational counseling, training, and job placement. Rehabilitation counselors provide and coordinate a wide range of rehabilitation counseling and case management services for veterans with disabilities and other eligible individuals and provide counseling to individuals with a range of disabilities in order that they may attain employment. Rehabilitation counselors in this position must access client information, maintain case records, produce correspondence, and perform other functions within the scope of the position's responsibilities.
Rehabilitation counselors must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavioral, or rehabilitative science, or in education or a related field, and one year of professional experience in counseling or in a public vocational rehabilitation program. A rehabilitation counselor negotiates and develops, with full participation of the individual with the disability, an individualized plan for employment to maximize employment potential. Rehabilitation counselors provide selective job development and placement services and prepare reports on patients' progress and their reactions to various activities.
