Travel Counselor Jobs
Travel counselors create domestic and international travel arrangements for clients, including air, hotel, and ground transportation, using available sources such as TSS, state department websites, news agencies, etc. Travel counselors advise clients of international travel requirements such as visas, passports, and immunizations. Travel counselors should have a strong working knowledge and understanding of international pricing rules and procedures. Travel counselors interact with travelers, travel arrangers, and travel managers; provide a first level of support for customer service and technical issues; and must stay informed of current international affairs. Travel counselors utilize preferred vendors to maximize profit; ensure compliance with the clients' travel policies; adhere to specific standards in delivering customer service, including telephone etiquette; follow prescribed customer service escalation procedures; and follow company procedures, guidelines, and standards in building passenger name records, utilizing tools, and maintaining productivity, accuracy of work, and attendance. Travel counselors attend staff and training meetings for ongoing updates regarding the travel industry and office procedures and maintain a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.
Travel counselors must have a bachelor's or master's degree in travel and tourism. Industry knowledge and reservation skills, in order to create domestic and international reservations, and proficiency in a minimum of one CRS are required for travel counselors. Travel counselors must have the ability to meet and maintain required performance standards and must have excellent customer service skills.
