Resident Counselor Jobs
A resident counselor job involves the supervision of residents, teaching daily living skills, ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, and general counseling. A resident counselor's main functions are to assist the resident assistants/apartment assistants in establishing a strong floor and hall community consistent with the mission of the home, serve as a resource for people through informal counseling, provide social programming to enhance the student residential experience, and serve as the residence's primary on-call person. Resident counselors should interact with other professionals assigned to the same area as them, discussing relevant issues and sharing information regarding concerns, physical plant issues, and any other information that will ensure an effective, cooperative effort focused on resident needs. A resident counselor is responsible for resolving daily resident issues before they become significant problems, incidents, or grievances.
A resident counselor position requires a bachelor's degree and associate's degree with at least one year of related work experience. Resident counselors must be available on their floors during semester residencies and must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
