Camp Counselor Jobs
Camp counselors have major duties and responsibilities regarding the general well-being of each camper. Camp counselors are responsible for aiding program staff during activities and for being an active part of all camp activities (i.e., campfires, song practice, camp olympics, talent shows, hikes, free time activities, etc.). Camp counselors are responsible for promoting a positive, healthy environment for the campers. Camp counselors develop and utilize personal leadership skills; are concerned for the social adjustment of each camper; help campers plan, carry out, and evaluate projects and activities; and promote camper participation in all activities. Camp counselors must understand and be able to communicate the overall expectations of the camp. Camp counselors must be able to identify the personal goals and expectations of their own camp counseling experience.
The camp counselor must have experience in working with children in a group setting. Camp counselors should develop a good working relationship with the program staff, nurse, kitchen staff, and camp director and provide leadership and support to fellow counselors. Camp counselors should have an interest in working with youth in a group living situation and developing personal leadership skills. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and have completed ninth grade at the time of camp. Camp counselors should have the ability to work as a team with other counselors and adult staff members. Camp counselors should be responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and willing to learn.
