What you will do:

The Director of Accessibility and


Accommodation Services provides campus strategy and leadership for full accessibility accommodations for students with disabilities in academic programs, support services, activities and facilities pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973). The incumbent maintains disability related documents, certify eligibility for services, determines reasonable accommodations and develops plan for the provision of such accommodations and supervises any Learning Support Specialists who manage any


accommodations. Serves as an advocate for students with disabilities and acts as liaison with faculty, staff and other campus community to assist students in pursuing their educational goals; coordinate policies, procedures, programs, and services that affect students with disabilities.


• Provide campus strategy and leadership for full accessibility accommodations for students with disabilities in academic programs, support services, activities and facilities pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973). Establish, maintain and periodically revise written protocol and procedures for assessment of all incoming students with disabilities and for providing reasonable and appropriate accommodations. Review and maintain annual operating budget; working closely with the Dean of Students to track and project expenses. Supervise professional


Support Specialist and student employees.

• Manage caseload and review applicable medical paperwork, meet individually with each student, approve reasonable accommodations, and regularly meet with students to review accommodations. Monitor and track student progress and usage of tutoring services for students on


accommodations. Develop proactive measures to monitor and track student performance over time. Conduct research on similar institutions and current best practices to develop future initiatives to proactively support students.

• Collaborate with Undergraduate staff and faculty to support at-risk students. Provide immediate 1:1 coaching in both executive functioning and developmental academic skills with the additional direction of Writing and Math specialists. Create student success plans and develop accountability measures to increase student persistence and performance.

• Create and present


trainings and workshops to faculty and advisors/coaches to further develop best practices to support students. Collaborate with faculty on inclusive, universal instructional design and incorporate faculty feedback in developing supports for students. Sharing input on materials that are advertised to students and faculty.

• Serve as Adaptive Technology Coordinator, E-Text Production Coordinator, and Accessible Web Advisor. Evaluate, procure, install, maintain, and update a variety of hardware and software involved in the delivery of support services such as but not limited to EText conversion, Dragon Naturally Speaking and Kurzweil. Maintain referral information and work with IT to provide technical assistance. Coordinate the conversion of instructional materials into alternative media format. Maintain Accessibility and


Accommodation Services website and effectively communicate with content manager.

• Advocate for campus accessibility; participate in programs and outreach as


representative; collaborate with facilities management, marketing, publications and all other offices and programs (i.e. admissions, new student orientation, veteran’s affairs, residential life, online learning) on campus to ensure services are accessible.

• Collaborate with resident life staff to evaluate, document, and recommend students who may qualify for Assistance Animals in the residence halls. If needed, coordinate yearly Commencement accommodations for Graduates and their guests.

Your Competencies:

• Master’s Degree in Counseling, Special Education, Teaching or other closely related field

• Minimum 2-4 of years experience working with diverse learners in high school or college setting

• Must have experience with supporting diverse learners. Aware of the differences between


plans in the secondary level and


Accommodations at the higher-education level. Familiar with


/Section 504 law and the Accommodations process.

• Past experience supervising


staff is strongly preferred

• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, concepts from Special Education, Counseling and teaching diverse learners. Eagerness to update best practices from current research and further develop pedagogical strategies to support students with disabilities

• Experience in teaching, coaching, and/or counseling. Ability to support students from a variety of learning backgrounds. Willingness to support students beyond what


law requires as a Learning Specialist.
