As a Senior Manager, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), you will work in collaboration with the Director within the Health in Emergencies (HiE) cluster of Emergency Management - Canada and International (EMCI). You will also work to advance mental health & psychosocial support (inclusive of safe environments) and beneficiary/community accountability within operations and programs to place affected communities. As a Senior Manager, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support you will: Develop MHPSS priorities and workplan for programs in collaboration with the Director, Protection and MHPSS, and in line with HiE and EMCI strategies Provide technical support and contributes knowledge and expertise to ensure strategies integrate MHPSS considerations across operations & programs and within geographies Provides on-site and remote guidance and oversight in the planning, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of MHPSS strategy, framework, and activities of the Service Lead the collaborative development of high quality stand-alone or integrated PSS assessments and situational analyses in line with guidelines and tools, with particular focus on support to EMCI Ensures existing and prospective initiatives across programs and operations are consistent with CRC's strategies, lessons learned and internationally accepted standards of practice (e.g. IFRC MHPS Policy, IASC Guidelines, Minimum Standards etc.) Abide by and work in accordance with the EMCI Standard Operating Procedures, Foundational documents, Technical Standards, and other relevant guidance materials. Support the implementation of beneficiary accountability processes and tools, including communication standards and feedback and complaints mechanisms Lead oversight to ensure successful integration of MHPSS lens and activity, with focus on at-risk populations, including co-chairing internal coordination structures (Communities of practise, working groups) on MHPSS, and EMCI Operations coordination teams provincially or nationally Support operations to develop, through collaborations and with the aim to enhance resilience, broad-based referral networks that address the anticipated needs of emergency-affected individuals, families, and communities, including provincial, regional and local community-based organizations, agencies and community resources. Advocate for client / beneficiary-centred approach in all operations and programs and on matters of mental health and psychosocial support, recognizing issues of protection, equity and cultural diversity. Support the evolution of training on MHPSS, inclusive of Safety and Wellbeing in response and standalone modules on MHPSS-related topics and monitor implementation against standards/best practices Contribute towards enhancing evidence-based quality MHPSS services/activities to reduce risks, increase the protective environment and enhance wellbeing, across operations and programs Assists in the development of a monitoring tools including identification of core performance psychosocial and protective environment indicators for programs/projects, including monitoring checklists Supports defining the MHPSS components of the volunteer profile(s) across programs, including identifying standards and ratios for recruitment. Provides research advice, material and representation to support an expanded leadership role for the CRC in Canada on psychosocial support and safe environment Manage personnel to deliver on objectives and support continuous improvement of the functions including coordination of team roles, skill development, transition, objective setting, performance assessments, coaching, and ensures resources, processes and tools support effectiveness and accountability. Escalates management issues as appropriate. What we are looking for: Completion of a graduate degree in Social Work or similar field (e.g. public health, child & youth care, nursing, psychology) or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Minimum 5 years of progressive job experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), wellness/wellbeing, social services program implementation required. Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French and additional languages considered as asset Training in Psychological First Aid, protection and violence prevention, and psychosocial support in emergencies Knowledge and certification in crisis intervention, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), or similar preferred Knowledge of clinical social work intervention Minimum 3 years in people management experience Experience in emergency management including in response, working for the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement considered a significant asset Able to demonstrate knowledge and respect of Indigenous culture and traditions, and cultural diversity. Strong leadership, managerial skills and problem-solving skills in a complex, high pressure environments Superior interpersonal relations, communication, conflict resolution, organization, and time management skills Demonstrated skills in diplomacy, advocacy, and practical approach Strong pedagogical skills to transfer knowledge/skills to personnel in MHPSS unit Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point) and Share Point is required; Strong writing skills, able to write timely and concise reports Working conditions Most of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable. Able to work non-traditional hours, and be on-call and respond to emergency/disaster related requests Potential for responding to disaster/crisis areas, as well as difficult and unstable conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odors, smoke, humidity, vulnerable beneficiaries). These stressful rapidly changing environments with limited information to make decisions have the potential to affect the physical and psychological state of the responders on site If working in a response site, health and safety considerations will be outlined prior to the assignment This position may require domestic or international travel to attend conferences, workshops and meetings as required Must be able to be medical cleared for travel in accordance with established CRC medical criteria in positions where travel will be required Full vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for this position and operation (the CRC will however adhere to its duty to accommodate those who are unable to be fully vaccinated for a reason related to a human right protected ground) If you require accommodation measures during any phase of the hiring process, please notify us as soon as possible.
