Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling or a related field and one year of related experience. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements.

Position Description:

An Academic Counselor in the Speed School of Engineering is responsible for advising undergraduate and Master of Engineering (MEng) engineering students concerning curriculum selection, degree requirements, and University procedures and regulations. This position works with assigned students from admission through graduation, and requires maintenance of detailed records on student progress within their academic program as well as the collection and assessment of data concerning guidance needs. When appropriate, the Academic Counselor will make referrals for tutoring, career guidance, and personal concerns. This position will also assist as needed with the planning and implementation of student success programming, including the engineering living learning community, outreach efforts, new student orientation, and other initiatives within the office. An Academic Counselor will have the opportunity to serve as a liaison for the Speed School on various committees across campus. The position assists in additional office functions and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or a related field is preferred, and two years of related experience.
• Related experience includes work with students in higher education within academic programs and/or development of student programs that directly foster student persistence.
