Job Description
The METCO Director provides oversight and leadership for the METCO program at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. The Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) is a grant-funded educational program through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts designed to expand educational opportunities, increase diversity and reduce racial isolation by permitting students from Boston and Springfield to attend participating public school systems in surrounding suburban communities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as a liaison between students from Boston and their families and school staff administration;
Establish and maintain a level of accessibility, visibility, and collaboration that contributes effectively to the sense of support and trust with students and among staff, students, and families;
Establish annual goals for the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (SPS) METCO program, and provide a report on progress towards the goals.
Prepare and implement the METCO grants and budgets submitted annually by SPS to the State’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE);
Represent SPS at METCO Directors’ meetings and other programs and events sponsored by METCO, Inc;
Work collaboratively with school and district administrators and share responsibility for the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of METCO personnel;
Supervise and coordinate transportation arrangements for students in the METCO program;
Work collaboratively with administrators and school staff to develop and coordinate orientation meetings, workshops, and special programs for students from Boston, school staff, parents, and the school communities which relate to the smooth functioning and goals of the METCO program in SPS;
Coordinate, oversee, and/or directly participate in major activities related to the operation of the METCO program in the SPS system, including facilitation of transitions between elementary and middle school and the middle school and high school. Work directly with Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School and Lincoln Public Schools and their METCO programs to facilitate transitions to LSRHS;
Remain current and share with staff and others, current research, best practices, and strategies for improving student achievement and success of all students in the program;
Ensure that families from Boston are adequately informed about school programs and procedures through district websites, newsletters, and other parent communications;
Arrange for consistent enrollment of students in coordination with METCO, Inc.
Work with school administrators and staff to build and maintain a positive academic and social climate for all Boston students for their continued success within the program;
Confer regularly with school counselors, academic advisors, principals, and teachers to be aware of which students are in need of special attention. Provide representation as needed in team meetings for individual students;
Develop and deliver quality professional development on cultural competencies across the district;
Participate in SPS administrative leadership team meetings;

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work or related field;
• At least 3 years of relevant experience as an educational program administrator or relevant youth services position;
• Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills;
• Ability to multi-task and handle issues of a complex nature;
• Strong and effective use of technology;
• Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a related discipline;
• Demonstrated experience working with urban communities and children from diverse cultural backgrounds;
• Massachusetts Certification as teacher, social worker, counselor or administrator/director.
At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
Bachelor degree preferred
Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
